The National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), comes under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. It is recognized internationally as UN-ESCAP Centre of Excellence in HRD, as it builds capacities of rural development functionaries, elected representatives, academicians and young students through the advanced curriculum that it offers.

The NIRDPR is aimed to disseminate higher education to far off regions to students who do not have the opportunity for everyday classroom education.

The Institute has its North East Regional Centre (NERC) situated at Guwahati where students can reach out for various services. The NIRDPR currently offers PGD programmes in 3 different specialisations namely, Sustainable Rural Development, Tribal Development Management, Geo Special Application in Rural Development.

Candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University by UGC

In-service development personnel working in the following sectors are also eligible for admission:
1. Rural development, agriculture (and allied sectors) and education sectors
2. Non-Governmental Organisations/ cooperatives / finance and banking
organisations

Admissions 2021 Highlights

  • Admission to all the courses are offered on the basis of merit on an All India Entrance Test or all recognized qualifying examinations like CAT / XAT / MAT / CMAT / ATMA / GMAT
  • Group discussions and Personal Interviews will be conducted for shortlisted candidates
  • The Last date for online submission of applications to the 19th session is 10-04-2021
  • Admission to all the courses will be done directly on a first-cum-first-serve basis. Hence, students are advised to apply well in time
  • The Entrance Test will be conducted on 25th April, 2021 at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Patna, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram
  • Candidates must have a graduation degree in the relevant subject to be eligible for the PG courses
  • The Government Departments, Organizations, Institutions or NGOs may sponsor their officials for admission to the Programmes at NIRD&PR by duly forwarding their applications and paying full Programme Fee for their admitted candidates.

How to Apply?

Admissions are accepted online for the courses at NIRD&PR website. Interested candidates may follow the below mentioned steps to apply for admissions:

  • Visit the official website of NIRD&PR
  • Scroll down to the notification list and click on ‘Apply Now’ for admissions to respective programmes
  • Candidates can also click here to directly get the application form
  • Candidates need to pay the application form online
  • The application fee for General Candidates is Rs. 500 and for SC, ST and PWD candidates is Rs. 300
  • The selected candidates will be intimidated by email or post individually upon selection
  • Students can also view the list of selected student on the website of NIRD&PR

NOTE:

  • Admissions will only be given if students furnish scanned copies of documents at the time of application
  • Admissions will be finalised only upon document verification with original documents
  • Document verification will happen in Semester 1 Contact Classes at the designated Contact Centre

Admission of Sponsored Candidates

The Government Departments, Organizations, Institutions or NGOs may sponsor their officials for admission to the Programmes at NIRD&PR by duly forwarding their applications and paying full Programme Fee for their admitted candidates.

  • The application fee for General Candidates is Rs. 500 and for SC, ST and PWD candidates is Rs. 300
  • The Fees has to be paid in two equal instalments at the beginning of each semester or lump sum ta the time of admissions for sponsored candidates

Placements

The National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) does not offer direct placement support for the students of distance education. However, constant support is provided throughout the year for resume building and preparation for the placements upon course completion.

Scholarships

  • Only a few meritorious students will be eligible for NIRDPR’s Scholarship on the basis of their performance during the trimester examinations
  • The North Eastern Council, Shillong, will be approached for giving fellowships to economically backward students of North Eastern states

Reservation

Reservation for SC / ST / PWD students shall happen in accordance with the policy of the Government of India. Students applying for reservation must furnish, along with their application form, a copy of their Caste / Tribe Certificate from a revenue officer not below the rank of Tehsildar/Mandal Revenue Officer/ Block Development Officer.
