Admissions 2021 Highlights


  • The total intake of the M.A. program is 51 students in total
  • The eligibility criteria for the M.A. program is graduation in the relevant field with min 55% aggregate marks
  • While the course is a distance program, twice a year, during the months of May-June and Oct-Nov face to face or contact classes are conducted
  • Contact classes of approximately a month each, are conducted in the TISS Mumbai campus
  • The total intake of the PGDLIM program is 25 students in total
  • For the PGDLIM course, candidates must have an MLIS and PH.D in Library Science from a recognized institution with minimum aggregate of 55%
  • The contact classes of 12 days each are conducted twice a year during the months of Oct-Nov and May-June
  • Online learning for the remainder of the year is conducted primarily using Moodle



How to Apply?


Candidates can apply for the Tata Institute of Social Sciences distance learning courses from the official website of the Institute. They can do so using the following steps:

  • Visit the official website of Tata Institute of Social Sciences
  • Click on Apply
  • Candidates will have to register and create an account
  • After the Email ID is verified, candidates have to fill in their academic details, upload necessary documents and select the courses to apply to
  • Candidates then have to pay the application fee depending upon the number of courses applied to (1030 per course for general; Rs 260 per course for Eligible GOI-PMS SC/ST/OBC(NC); Rs 510 per course for Non-eligible GOI-PMS SC/ST/OBC(NC))
  • Payment can be made online as well as offline via a bank challan that can be grenerated from the payment page
  • In case of cash payment, candidates will have to upload a copy of the challan received from the bank



Required documents at the time of admissions:


Before starting the application process, candidates must have the following documents handy to ease out the process:

  • Passport size photo
  • Scanned copy of signature
  • Class 10th & 12th Marksheet
  • Graduation & Postgraduate degree or provisional degree, as the case may be (if applicable)
  • Government photo ID Card
  • Caste / Tribe Certificate (if applicable)
  • Income Certificate (if applicable)
  • TISS copy of challan (if paid by cash)
  • PWD / Armed Forces / KM Certificate (if applicable)



Important Dates


  • The last date to apply for the M.A. program is January 25, 2021. Admissions are currently open at Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
  • Dates for the PGDLIM program will be announced soon by TISS
